The impact of nursing home registration and how to solve the problem
As seen in our global sum support income article, patients in care organisations attract additional weighting for your global sum payments.
We have verified with PCSE that all patients living in CQC registered care provider organisations are eligible to be recorded as such and affect your global sum payments. You can use the CQC website to look up organisations – we have found that sheltered accommodation and a variety of other types of supported living organisations are CQC registered so think laterally.
To access registrations, select the patient you wish to check then:
- Click on the EMIS bubble
- Select Registration
- Then select Registration
Click on Edit Patient:
In the popup modal:
- Select Primary Care
- Then select the Residential Institute code that PCSE have instructed you to use
- Save patient registration details
- EMIS Web will generate a GP Links amendment to notify PCSE
- The patient has now been successfully registered to count for your global sum calculation.
For more information on configuring Residential Institute codes, read this article.
Whilst being in a residential institute attracts a factor of 1.43 to your global sum, there are a series of further normalising calculations that are performed prior to the final allocation of funding. This is complex – see our article on global sum income for more details
